Deep Tissue Massage (inc. mobilisation)

July 18, 2015

Deep Tissue Massage aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fibres of the muscles, tendons and fascia. A deep-tissue massage helps loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly.

I have been working as a Complementary Therapist for 8 years. Since I was a child I have always felt a deep infinity with nature which sparked my interest in Holistic Therapies. I look to natural forms of healing as way of treating mind, body and spirit , which with all the day to day stresses of modern life can become out of balance, creating tension and illness , both physically and mentally in ourselves.
I am trained in a wide range of therapies such as Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Deep Tissue Massage, Indian Head Massage, Hot Stone Massage and  Seated Acupressure as well as Spa treatments such as Scrubs , Body Wraps and Facials.
Many of these therapies originated in the Far East thousands of years ago and their roots can be found in Ayurvedic and  Chinese traditions. They treat the person as a whole rather than the isolated symptoms. Massage and reflexology not only relax the body and mind, but boost the immune system, release natural endorphins that can combat depression and anxiety, aid lymphatic drainage and blood circulation, tone the muscles, and release blockages in the energy channels  resulting in increased vitality and energy.
I believe the more we listen to our body’s messages the more it responds with increased health and vitality. We all deserve a bit of time out for ourselves to relax, switch off and recuperate in an environment where we can feel tranquil and safe. Holistic Therapies are to me a stepping stone on the pathway to self love, self awareness and spiritual development, where the needs of our body , mind and spirit are nurtured as a whole.

Integrative (about 1.5 hours): very popular and truly holistic, this session includes a full-body check-in and a multi-approach, full-body, flowing Esalen massage.  Plenty of time to focus on specific areas and integrate all into a complete whole – a bespoke, spontaneous, multiple-modality, eclectic, and explorative, bodywork experience.

Deep Integration (2 hours): this session is for all lovers and connoisseurs of massage and bodywork.  Plenty of time for including therapies such as deep lymphatic drainage, craniosacral work, energy balancing, and more.  Lots of time to enter timelessness – therapeutic and deeply integrative.

I gained a special interest in holistic health, wellness and natural beauty on my travels around the world. Having worked in the fashion industry for many years and still modelling well into my fifties -I have had a vested interest in how to look and feel ones best totally naturally!

I am trained in Reiki, Cranio-Sacral Therapy , Reflexologist AOR and specialise in maternity treatments often combining aromatherapy, massage and reflexology. Rejuvanessence and Facial Energy Release- face therapy. Qualified in Advanced Massage in 1990 and became an IFPA registered Aromatherapist and Rejuvanessence® practitioner in 1991.

Please take a look at my own website carolinejosling.com

My treatments often draw on a mélange of all these techniques with a strong holistic lean; I offer advice on how to optimise health naturally with life- style and supplements suggestions whilst complementing any conventional medical treatment. In a busy and often stressful world I believe that treatments can restore and revive the person, as well as offering support whilst going through a stressful time, recovering from illness, low energy or grief. Treatments can help to release pent up stress and tension to help you regain balance.

I have run many practitioner trainings since 2004 /2013 for The International Institute of Rejuvanessence and now run practitioner trainings in Facial Energy Release-face therapy.

Facial Energy Release – face therapy

This is a wonderful life-enhancing therapy that soothes away the ravages of modern life. Unique fingertip holistic therapy also known as “Angels Touch”.

It includes gentle, very precise massage of the 91 muscles of the face, neck skull and shoulders whilst also working on facial connective tissue making it more elastic and flexible.

As well as looking younger, clients often say that they feel invigorated, rejuvenated, healing.  Blissfully hypnotic touch works on lymph, acupuncture points releasing blocked energy and tension. A course of Facial Energy Release comprises of six sessions of 80 minutes each working on different groups of connective tissue and muscles.

Anna’s passion for complementary therapies started when she received a short reflexology session, which helped to release pain that she had. She decided to study Reflexology to be in the position to support others. She qualified as a Reflexologist in 2008 and went on to gain her Diploma in Holistic Massage two years later.

She has been constantly upgrading her knowledge and skills by attending reflexology, massage and healing workshops.

She has been supporting different types of people, specializing in dealing with stress and stress related conditions and also supporting people that face emotional challenges. She tailors each session according to client’s needs, adjusting the pressure and using her nurturing touch to encourage the state of relaxation and supporting the release of blockages and tension.

I grew up in the North East of Scotland in a beautiful forest, and was immersed in plants from a young age. If I had a sore throat my mother would send me to the garden to pick herbs to make a gargle.  She took me to massage workshops when I was five, and I did my first degree in Reiki when I was eight. These experiences influenced me from a young age and have been deep in my heart.

I travelled to Thailand to learn Thai Yoga Massage and trained in a variety of techniques including Thai Yoga Massage, Thai Table Massage, Thai Foot Massage, Thai Herbal Ball Massage and Tok Sen, an ancient technique taught in the temples by monks. I am also trained to teach Thai Massage. We worked with boys at a youth offenders borstal, and we worked with mentally and physically disabled, and Elderly patients, in care homes.

Thai Yoga Massage is like a beautifully choreographed dance that invokes the deepest of peace. It is an ancient art which has been practiced for over 2,500 years. It involves a symbiosis of acupressure and stretching techniques, sometimes referred to as ‘lazy yoga’. Thai Massage works along the energy lines, (called Sen lines) in the body. These lines are correlated with Chinese Qi meridians.

Swedish Massage is designed to soothe, relax and relieve the body and the mind. It eases stress and tension with a variety of techniques such as effleurage, petrissage and tapotement.

Deep Tissue Massage uses firm pressure and slow strokes to work deeper into the layers of muscle and soft tissue. The nature of Deep Tissue Massage means that it is really effective in treating chronic conditions. The pressure, stripping and friction techniques break down knots and lactic acid crystals and improve circulation to bring relief and relaxation.

Herbal Medicine is also referred to as phytomedicine, and is a tradition that involves using plants for medicinal purposes. Different parts of the plants can be used to make medicines, including the leaves, flowers, berries, bark, roots and seeds.  A Qualified Medical Herbalist has a BSc or equivalent in Herbal Medicine, has studied orthodox medicine as well as plant medicine, and is trained in the same diagnostic skills as a GP.

I have been practicing Herbal Medicine and bodywork for five years, and I have worked in a variety of settings, including Herbal First Aid (and E.M.R – Emergency Medical Responder) at festivals. This has given me a lot of experience working with both acute and chronic complaints.

I have experience in a variety of techniques and often blend the different styles, tailoring the treatment to the individual needs of the client. The most popular treatment is a synergy of styles such as Swedish to warm and soften the muscles, DTM to release deep tension and lactic acid crystals and Thai stretches to clear, open and realign the body.  I often use Herbal Medicine to complement body work treatments, such as calming teas and healing balms.  I combine gentleness and care with strength and presence to provide the perfect treatment.

I use herbs, hands and heart, working in harmony, to empower and inspire people to health and vitality for themselves, and for the world.

I’m passionate about many forms of alternative health and complementary medicine, but holistic massage therapy is my chosen path of expertise. I started out on a completely different path in life, studying politics and economics up to Master’s level at the London School of Economics. After spending a few years working for some well-known international organisations, I took the decision to embark on a career change to pursue my passions of holistic healing and organic living.

After gaining some experience in these areas during my travels around the world, I returned home and studied to MTI level 4 (CertHE) in Holistic Massage Therapy under a master Osteopath and Massage Therapist. This course also included a solid grounding in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology, so if you suffer from a chronic musculoskeletal or immune disorder, I’ll approach your needs as an individual. However, should you simply need a relaxing massage, you will be in good hands too!

I trained at The College of Classical Massage (based in Brighton) under college Principle Michael Gibbons.  I regularly assist the Principal of CCM in teaching the new Holistic Massage Diploma students encompassing all areas of massage technique, good posture and general student support.

I have been hugely influenced by my Grandfather who initially trained in medicine, but embraced a new career in complementary medicine in his 50s. He had a successful Osteopathy, Acupuncture & Homoeopathy practice. He treated the whole family and encouraged me to pursue massage, regularly inviting me to observe him at work.

I massaged all my children when they were babies and now they are teenagers who enjoy a variety of sports including Kickboxing, Boxing, Rugby, Basketball and sedentary gaming, they continue to benefit from my skills!!

Meeting a new client, I observe closely individual posture and gait and after a full consultation to gain a medical history and knowledge on any repetitive physical actions they may be doing to adversely affect their body’s balance, I design a bespoke treatment to suit their needs.
I never tire of the joy I feel witnessing the “before & after” effect, the profound difference the power of touch can have!

My regular clients include Teachers, Nurses, Musicians, Artists, Chefs, Physiotherapists, Midwives, Hairdressers, Yoga teachers, Builders, Camera men, Prison Officers, Gardeners, Actors, children and other Therapists.

Madeleine started working in London as a full time massage therapist in 2001. Her work has mainly been as a remedial massage therapist, with a fair amount of on -site chair work and some Thai massage. She has had a wide range of experience treating musicians, corporate workers, dancers, horse riders and anyone walking through the door. Since this time, she has continued to educate herself in different therapeutic modalities, in the quest to effectively treat a wide variety of injuries and physical issues.

In the last couple of years, her focus has changed to Structural Integration (alias Rolfing) and yoga therapy. The structural changes addressing old injuries and vocational postures brought about by the hands on fascial work in a structural integration treatment, followed by a personalised yoga practise bring about startling and completely satisfactory results. Many are unaware of the potential to bring the body back into a better alignment, with the freedom in movement and from aches and pain that accompanies this. Seeing one’s posture return to what it was brings a new lease of life.

Formerly a professional classical musician, her interest in body work and natural health began whilst writing her dissertation on Stress and Relaxation, for her BSc in Human Sciences, University College London. She is a keen traveller and has lived and worked in Europe, S-E Asia and Africa, and spent long periods in India.
