Dietitians are the healthcare professionals licensed to assess, diagnose, and treat dietry related conditions which are out of physician’s scope of expertise, e.g. Crohn’s disease. A dietitian manages the treatment changes based upon their knowledge of nutritional biochemistry.
I am an experienced Dietitian, having qualified in 2008 from Bath Spa University with a Honours BSc degree in Diet and Health. I am in a possession of a Masters degree in Dietetics and a certificate in Paediatric Nutrition from the University of Nottingham. I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and I am a member of the British Dietetic Association, including paediatric and allergy specialist groups. I strive for the delivery of excellent patient care through education, and the empowerment of patients, their families and carers.
I have 10 years’ experience in dietary and nutritional counseling working in both private and public health sectors covering many different areas of nutrition and dietetics. I have also worked on a voluntary basis with Sirona Healthcare and Off the Records Centre helping parents, children and whole families to improve their nutrition and lifestyle. I found this work extremely rewarding and inspirational. It is important to me as an individual to be able to care for others.
My particular interest lays in Paediatrics and Gastroenterology Dietetics. My paediatric dietetic services include allergy(e.g. cow’s milk protein allergy), intolerance (e.g. lactose intolerance), feeding problems, faltering growth, gastrointestinal problems, fussy eating, weight management and general nutrition for children. I work with pregnant and lactating women helping them to feed their babies a healthy diet from the very earliest. I enjoy working with families and children providing practical, evidence based advice on a healthy diet, cooking for health, labelling and making the right choices. Taking a relaxed and empathetic approach, I engage with the families, sometimes guiding small changes yielding significant results.
I am very interested in helping patients with gastrointestinal problems such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome by using the low FODMAP diet, and food hypersensitivities by using elimination diets. I also work with people to improve their gut health, weight management, diabetes, mental wellbeing and performance. I lecture on nutrition, based on the most recent evidenced based information.
I acknowledge that people are individuals and that dietetic interventions and support need to be tailored to suit the person and their own situation. Therefore, I completed a three-day Psychology of Eating course which gave me a good foundation in understanding people’s choices and appropriate behaviour change.
