Somatic Experiencing (S.E) is one of the most natural and powerful methods for reducing mental and physical discomfort and trauma. There is growing acceptance in leading therapeutic opinion that deep change and healing requires the involvement of the body. S.E. taps into natural instincts and processes in the body that release and relieve suffering and lead you back to balance. It is also something well worth experiencing
I’m fully qualified in Somatic Experiencing, having trained in the US, the UK and Europe. S.E is a highly recognised mode of therapy with quick and lasting results for short-lived traumas, and it’s also highly effective for more complex or longstanding suffering. S.E is useful with difficult childhoods, relationship difficulties, health problems, chronic pain, insomnia, panic, anxiety, depression, phobias… I also see and have a great success rate with children and the young.
Few animals are traumatised in the wild, despite going through terrible experiences. This is because they know how to let their body release the shock or stress. Whereas humans, in our finite wisdom, often stop this process. My job is to help you rediscover the innate wisdom of your body to heal you now, even from events that took place many years ago. As a result of this work, you will find it easier to stay in a balanced and easeful state during normal times, but also have increased resilience during stress and strain.
S.E brings ancient and up-to-date techniques together so that we can deal with your past and your pain without having to go into your story. S.E can feel like a whole new language once you’re familiar with it, and deals with the fact that we are not just a body and a mind, but a nervous system too.
Typically most clients see a difference in just a few sessions, and some clients need only a handful. For more complex problems and traumas, it can take longer, but the difference with SE is that your body heals you using its own innate wisdom. That might sound a bit woo-woo to some, but there is a lot of research and burgeoning opinion that the most lasting and deep change has to involve gently feelings the feelings we’re trying to get rid of. That is the way to lasting and profound change.
